Governance and net-import dependency on food and agricultural products in Sub-Saharan Africa: does any causality exist?

Though most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are agricultural-based, the region is a net importer of food and agricultural products experiences highest level insecurity globally. The government have joint goal achieving favourable balance trade security; hence this study examines causal relationship between quality governance net-import dependency on for 25 SSA during period 1995-2015. Principal component analysis employed to develop index based six worldwide indicators multivariate panel vector error correction framework applied infer causality short long run. results reveal that higher correlated with lower ratio statistically significant. Evidence unidirectional running from reported 14 countries, mainly In conclusion, improving could support reduced through promoting agriculture production, exports consequently deficits Hence, reforms should be placed at heart development agenda.
